MoFuse Product Blog: T-Mobile Giving Sidekick Users $100, I wonder If… « MoFuse Product Blog

  • Tamara Gruber · 2 months ago
I think I would! It is a shame because this device has well serviced a market of very active mobile data users. With all the attention put on the iPhone, Android, Pre, or even BlackBerry, we sometimes forget how the larger screen of the Sidekick provides a perfectly acceptable mobile web browsing experience.

The first Sidekick was on the my first "Smart phones", I loved it.

Knowing T-Mobile, I highly doubt they would credit that towards a termination fee. In fact, they probably wouldn't like it at all.

Lol...wish i was that much lucky to get one so cheap, any way thanks for sharing it:)
  • playsupermariogame · 2 months ago
I am sure T-mobile will not adjust it with the termination fee for it will lose a lot of free money that it expects to earn from early termination.
  • Online Horror Games · 2 months ago
No one wants to return easy money and T-mobile is no exception.

However I jus hope such a scheme does come up!

the freebie might help in increasing the sales but i would prefer a contract free one any time over others.

How about they let them store the data locally rather than in the cloud, or better yet BACKUP your data! Then they wouldn't have to give out giftcard! GAH!!!
  • Locksmith · 2 months ago
I seriously doubt that they would. Although that would be a great option.
  • TV Repair Edinburgh · 2 months ago
Amazing, I would drop them in a second despite it being Microsoft's fault. Amazing that a company as large as Microsoft can fail to make basic data backups. Here's looking forward to my first IPhon in December, or perhaps an Android phone.. decisions decisions!

I have always prefferred the sidekick just because it still remains quite a decent internet device. i highly doubt tmobile would let you use the credit for termination. they will look to screw you any way they can!
  • sexylpga · 2 months ago
ofcourse they won't credit it on an early termination fee although with this kind of foul up they should.
  • Website Optimsation UK · 2 months ago
A massive foul-up by Microsoft this one. Let's hope they learn from it... backup, backup & backup again!

lol hardly a shocker that T mobile would give money towards continuing your service with them. hardly great when your so angry you want to leave the company, oh well lesson learned for all T Mobile suck!
  • Jorege · 2 months ago
I think they let you cancel the service for free now because of this.

I am form Europe so I am using small phone without many unnecessary features. If i need a internet I use a compute, because it is way faster and the screen is about 5 times bigger. So why?

The sidekick was the first phone I ever got and the most useful and I still like it even if I own an iphone now I am still nostalgic.
Plus I am taking the chance to tell you that if anyone is looking for a way to withdraw their Paypal funds without the hassles of Paypal and the verification system, and the bank account use http:/www.hellpme.com it's a great tool I have used at many instances before.

That;s a hilarious thought though. They really dropped the ball on this though. I actually read about this last week on Matt Cutts' blog and he found the idea, as we all do, pretty amazing...the fact that a huge corporation can do such a thing. Although the compensation is quite reasonable and I think a lot of people are going to forgive the company in due time.
  • Nate Kragness · 2 months ago
I know a few people who were affected by this, but most were pretty satisfied with the $100 restitution. It definitely serves as a reminder that you should always back up your own data, even if it's also stored on a central server at a huge corporation.

I don't know if I would be happy with the $100 dollars if I just lost all of my data. While it's nice they are doing something, I don't think it will please the masses.
  • sealyham · 2 months ago
I'm positive that $100 would help me get over losing all my data - but I'd still be pretty mad.
  • mitesser · 2 months ago
Depends on the data. Personally, I'd be extremely mad about this if it happened to me.. 100 dollars wouldn't please me at all, no way.
  • Free Web Hosting · 2 months ago
Not really worth the $100 if you ask me, considering T-Mobile isn't one of the "best" carriers I've had the pleasure of dealing with.

I am not T-mobile user. But I think T-mobile is better than Microsoft.

Shouldn't Microsoft be the one to credit the users of sidelick on T-Mobile and not T-mobile itself... seems stupid to me that T-Mobile end up paying for MS mistakes...
  • free roommate finder · 2 months ago
Is MS going to reimburse T-Mobile? If I were T-Mobile I would be pretty upset with Redmond right about now. Even if T-Mobile got the software for free it is not worth the problems that they have found.

  • Medieval Daggers · 1 month ago
That's true - the problems have been horrendous. And I doubt MS will be reimbursing anyone.
  • Skpye · 1 month ago

Thats's awful, I just hate it when big companies screw up like that and don't even give the users a fair compensation, I mean $100 in credit. That's a joke.

I've never even seen this device before, looks kinda funky. Not something I'd ever buy.

T-Mobile, the carrier that carries the Sidekick, has been taking the onslaught of the outrage from customers, since they are the ones who directly deal with them on a day to day basis.

This thing was really a big blow to T-Mobile's good name. Anyway, I thought T-Mobile's system is very secure.

T-Mobile has given every Sidekick user a free month of data service and a $100 in credit to use towards any T-Mobile service or product.

I don't think this is enough to compensate for the users' loss. I mean, the data and other important files are lost forever, except when they find means to recover them, which is really a slim chance.

Part of me is laughing at Microsoft for this, and part of me is feeling quite bad for T-mobile over this. I mean, I'm typically the last person who's going to stand up for a big company, but isn't what happened here entirely beyond their control? Yet despite that, they still have the decency to offer a free month and one hundred bucks credit. Good on them, not so much for Microsoft I guess!

That's good the company responded with something. Man I never know termination fees are that expensive!

“T-Mobile, the carrier that carries the Sidekick, has been taking the onslaught of the outrage from customers, since they are the ones who directly deal with them on a day to day basis.”

I don’t know why the T-Mobile was ever created if only to make the customers mad all the time. Most people I have talked to who have tried Sidekick have only furious things to say about it. What is really in the mind of these owners? Don’t they ever know when to step into it and address the issues they need to tackle.
